70 m (SW) upslope is a large rockface, 50 m downslope (NE) is the railroad grade, 20 m past the RR grade is the Meadow River. The river can be heard at our plot. No human use is apparent here, though there are beer cans along the RR grade. Birds which prefer edge habitat are heard calling.;Tulip poplar/ Rhododendron patch of forest, moist, cool and shady. This is probably at least a second growth forest. Many herbaceous species are growing on top of large boulder. No evidence on Hemlock of wooly adelgid.
Representativeness
Cool, shady LITU/RHMA mixed deciduous-evergreen forest. Plot placed to sample ELU 1110. Similar to plot GARI.58 only with much more Rhododendron and very few forbs. Also similar to plot sampled along Gauley River, GARI.50.
